Getting to know us

This is the headmaster of the Orphanage, Peter O. He used to be a teacher at a Deaf School(He is also Deaf) and when he saw that the orphans were dying- he moved to take action with Pamela. In addition to being the headmaster, Peter is also on the LDO board.

This is John M. He is also a teacher, but at another Deaf school still. He comes over once in a while to keep Peter company. John is also on the LDO board.

This is Daniel, an IDP (Internally Displaced Person) Deaf man, that volunteers at the orphanage overseeing many variety of things. He had to flee during the violence of 2008. He has graciously agreed to be on the board in LDO matters.

This is Winston, a Deaf Pastor, who resides in Nairobi- the Captial of Kenya. He has been my friend, and guide everytime I went to Kenya. He has also been asked to be on the board(which he accepted) and once in a while he visits the orphange to be sure everything is clicking!! (I.e. when we send funds to orphanage for projects such as toilet well, water tank, etc. He acts like an independent auditor to be sure everything goes as planned) I have grown rather close to him and his family. He has been there watching me experience and turn, almost, into a Kenyan.

This is William, a hearing interpreter, who has been with me 2 out of 3 times (to date) and counting. He's a great guy, sacrifices so much for the Deaf world in Kenya. In a perfect world, we would be together sipping Kenyan tea and watching movies. We have gone through so much together that he swears I am the 43th tribe in Kenya... "The White Africian", William affectionally calls me. We both have a part of the Kenyan Flag logo tattooed on our right arm and call each other "the right armed brother".

And (for now- will have more pictures coming) a special Shout out to: Paul, Monica, Ednah, Stella and others for helping with the kids.
