They needed to dig a new toilet "well"- because their old one was getting "full" and needed to be sealed. Without doing this, the Ministry of Public Safety threatened to shut them down. They had no money for such an undertaking. LDO was able to provide the funds for this, and an opportunity for me to tease people, "Your money is going down the drain". (snicker)

This guy is using a shark nail/wood to break apart the hard sediments of the dirt. They now have a new, clean place to go to.
It also crossed our minds that it would be a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas by giving the Orphans their FIRST ever Christmas "feast" and sodas. Peter said, "For the first time in their lives, they can look across the land to their neighbor kids and say 'I'm just like them.'" (The other kids in the neighbor have families and celebrate Christmas.)

LDO was able to get them a goat, and a chicken for a feast. Sodas were also popular because many of the Orphans never had tasted sodas before!

(waiting for the sodas)
Around that time, Peter and the Board saw that there were more Deaf Orphans around and said that they would "open the doors" to only ten more orphans
who shows up to take them in. Twenty showed up. The mood was, "How can we choose who to keep and who to send away?" They ended up
taking in almost twenty more orphans so the number in December of 2008 jumped from 20 to around 40 orphans!! (A few new kids in here)
With this, came a new message from the Ministry of Public safety.... LDO, with the supporters, rose to the challenge.

We were able to purchase a new water tank for the orphanage!! WOW!
A few months passed and around March, Paul- an orphan was hit by a car. He was new to the area and
showing a fellow orphan girl around the area. His injury was so serious they had to transport himm 6 hours away
to Nairobi Hospital where he stayed almost two weeks. LDO was able to raise some money to be able to pay for the medical
expenses.

As of April, 2009- He has recovered but is moving gingerly. We will have to wait and see the extent of the
injuries as time progresses.
CROCS CROCS CROCS CROCS CROCS
Around the end of March, there was a HUGE croc warehouse sale- and I found some bins of brand new crocs that were only $5!!! I bought 45 pairs of crocs!!!

I'm so thrilled to be able to do this!!! Different sizes to try to accomondate the kids sizes!!! This was made possible only because of your support!!! I will be bringing this with me when I go to Kenya again this June to July of 2009!!! (I really need to update this!! We gave out the shoes in 2010 and they loved them!!) We rebuilt their front of the building, and built them a chicken coop!
We went back in July 2009 and see the next page for more pictures!
